Evaluation Question 3- What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I also done some audio vox poxs to gain an insight of what people thought about our final ancillary texts and our music video. The results are shown below:
There were praises from this interviewee who believed we targeted the target audience well through the CD album cover. However they thought the colours clashed on the front cover and our intentions to this was to represent the song as it was quite depressing therefore depicted this in the album work. They liked the image on the magazine advert however it was different to the style of the album work. In the video, this interviewee liked the use of camera angles and found the ending rather interesting however the negative aspects was that the fire scene was too dark.
Another interviewee also gave some feedback. They liked the fact the lyrics represented on the images on the CD suited well with the message being portrayed 'Still Not Broken'. My group and I done this to ensure everything flows and the audience get the correct message. However they would have liked to see more bright colours however if we done this it would not adhere to typical conventions of R&B culture which is associated with dark colours. They found the magazine attractive and eye catching however if we were to make improvements they would have liked to see more pictures. This audience linked the idea related back to Andrew Goodwin's Theory by commenting on the scene where our artist writes on the mirror in lipstick and is singing at the same time.
This interviewee liked seeing typical conventions such as the artist on the front cover. They believed it worked well to the title of the song however to improve they would have liked to see bright colours. but again if we done this it would not adhere to typical conventions of R&B culture which is associated with dark colours. They found the magazine very eye catching and bold however they would have liked to see more text as the image took up too much space. In the music video they enjoyed the narrative and the different angles within each scene. However they would have liked to see more dancing (performanced based video) but we can argue the reason we did not do this was due to the song which connotes different messages.
This interviewee found the CD album cover very direct and engaging to the audience however they would have liked to see more colour. In the magazine advert, they found the product sharp, stylish and would be something they would like to buy. In the video, they liked the creativity in the video however the downside was that the interviewee did not realise it was a different guy in the end and had to watch it a several times.
After doing audio vox pox's I also done some further research by sending out a questionnaire with similar questions to a sample of 20. This questionnaire included open and close ended questions.
Questionnaire :
After carrying out this questionnaire, I collected data by making graphs. Here are the results of my audience feedback:
From these results, I can tell the target audience was between 16-18 which can have similarities to the target audience of our ancillary products and music video.
Looking at the results from this graph, the majority liked the CD album work. The reason for this is that my group and I constructed an album with typical features therefore this could be a reason why the audience related to this.
From this research, I intended to ask the audience what they found pessimistic about the CD album work. The majority said that the colours did not work well together. Therefore I learnt, if i was to produce the CD album again, I would add brighter colours.
For the magazine advert, many people liked the message which was sent out from the magazine and following that, they also liked the colours. From these results, I learnt that it is vital to maintain features which are appealing to the audience.
Asking about the negative aspects of the magazine resulted in many people finding the magazine advert not flowing well with the CD album work. From this audience feedback I learnt that to give a continuous feel I must ensure all products flow well together.
The whole sample (20) said that they would go and watch the music video after looking at the magazine advert and the CD album. This was successful as I learnt that all products linked in some way and we encouraged people to go view the video.
There was many things the audience enjoyed about the music video. The narrative, stop motion and camera angles was what the audience enjoyed the most.
In the questionnaire, I believe it was important to ask about the negative aspects of the music video aswell and the majority said lighting and the story line. To improve I learnt that it is significant to look at every scene in the video in depth and make sure lighting and mise en scene is consistent throughout.
From this question, majority said they would see our music video on KISS and I developed upon this from my research and planning which I also saw our video being on KISS. Therefore I learnt that many music channels vary in different genres however our music video was the most well suited to be on KISS.

Changes made from Second Cut Music Video to Third Cut Music Video (Final)
Changes we made were:
- Sandhya is shutting the door on Zein's scene (shot composition was changed- jump cut was removed and split screen effect was shortened)
- Graphic match between Sandhya's bedroom to Zein writing the letter was shortened.
- Harrow revisited scene- Nikhil's face was too small so we zoomed into his and Sandhya's face, making it easier to identify Nikhil as not being Zein.
Production Log
Today after school, we done a screening of our music video. We carried out some surveys where we got audience feedback from peers for our music video. This was useful because we wanted as much criticism as we can get to allow us to make as many improvements possible.

Changes made between First and Second Cut Music Video
- Video aspect ratio changed from 4:3 to 16:9 wide screen
- Upscaling from SD (standard definition) to 720P HD
- Piano scene (camera angles were changed. Audio and video was out of sync. Hair style and sleeve position did not match the letter reading scene)
Friday 23rd March- Day 17 of shooting – Reshoot (3) of 8B, 8C & 12
Today we reshoot the piano scenes at lunch as there were noticeable problem in the footage previously recorded;
- After editing in previously shot footage we noticed there were timing issues.
- There was an inconsistencies with our actress’s hair ,whereby in the next scene it is left out in this scene it was tied up we also ensured her sleeves were rolled up to preserver a continuous feel to the video.
Today we had also had problems with the equipments . we borrowed a tripod from school however when we started shooting we realised the tripod was too short. Therefore we had to go and collect another tripod which would be useful for the high angle shot we are trying to construct. This was longer than expected thus we didn’t have enough time to complete the shooting during lunch. As a result of this, we will be filming after school where we will have enough time to complete our final reshoot.

Thursday 22nd March 2012
Looking carefully back at footage we realised we have made a mistake which again is quite noticeable where our Artists hair has changed in the piano scenes therefore we decided today we will be reshooting for the last time tomorrow.

Friday 16th March 2012- Day 16 of filming- Reshoot (3) of 5A and Reshoot (1) of 10A & 10B.
In the second attempt of 5A, she was not miming in time with the song.
The reasons for the reshoot of 10A & 10B- We lost some of the ending footage due to a corrupt CD. The camera was also not charged therefore this could be a reason why our footage ended up getting corrupt. Also due to not having a charger we had to rush the shooting towards the end.
The lighting last time was not very homely and was too bright. We also ran out of pictures last time and the fire was quite difficult to start.
However on this day where we reshot there were many improvements made such as, we printed more pictures just in case which was quite time consuming however was worth it in the end, the fire was easier this time as we had a trial run at the beginning, we bought a charger and two video cameras, and the lighting was made more homely. We also added another shot type as we decided to split 10A which was initially 7 seconds however we thought this was too long for someone to stare at a fire therefore split this up.

Thursday 15th March 2012- Day 15 of filming- Reshoot (2) of 1A-E & 14A-14C and Reshoot (1) of 4B and First filming of 4A.
Reasons for reshooting 1A-E & 14A-C: In previous takings, the bag which Sandhya wears was not consistent and we thought this was a spottable change that the audience may pick up on therefore decided to reshoot this today. Also her hair changed from her hair up to her hair out when she was walking in the same place and this was also a noticeable change.
Reasons for reshooting 4B- Previously when we shot this scene the weather was very windy therefore it was quite difficult to shoot. Also looking back at the footage the camera was quite shaky.
First shooting of 4A- Originally for this scene we were going to use the green screen to come up with a scene however this equipment was not available in such short time therefore we decided to extend 4B into 4A.

Wednesday 14h March 2012- Day 14 of Filming- Reshoot (2) of 5A and Reshoot (1) of 5B, 6A,6B,13A,13B & 13C and Other first shootings taken place
Today was a very busy day as we had a lot of scenes to shoot. We had to reshoot 5A because we forgot the graphic match in the previous shooting.
We also shot 8C which is the scene of Zein dropping the envelope to Sandhyas door however the girls house we were using told us the day before that her door was getting fixed therefore we were in a situation where we thought we would have to change all the previous scenes such as the argument scene because the door would have not been consistent thus, we decided to change the type of shot to just a close up of the letter box.
Later on this day, we reshot scenes 5B, 6A, 6B, 13A, 13B & 13C. The reasons for why we reshot today was due to earlier on this day when we shot 5A, the graphic match was missing because we didn’t find any way to do the graphic match due to the arrangements of the room and found it much easier to try out a graphic match in Zeins house. We used a black folder in which the camera would pan across towards the next scene.
We also reshot these scenes because the clothing of the male actor was not consistent and was incorrect because in 13A, 13B & 13C there was supposed to be different clothes however previously we had him in the same clothes throughout.
Tuesday, 13 March 2012
Tuesday 13th March 2012
Today we initially planned to reshoot scenes 1A, 1B, 1C, 1E, 14A, 14B, 14C, 14D however our Artist was unable to attend due to a university open day and we were informed very last minute therefore we had to chose another day to reshoot these scenes.
Monday, 12 March 2012
Monday 12th March 2012- Day 13 of Filming- Reshoot (2) of 8B,8C & 12
Today we had our second reshoot of scenes 8B, 8C & 12 and the reason we reshot was because in the previous footage, one member of the group was seen in the reflection of the mirror which was difficult to crop. A lot of backlighting was produced as we were unable to close the curtains therefore we reshot this in school again.

Tuesday 6th March 2012- Day 12 of filming – Reshoot (1) of 8B,8C & 12
Today we had to reshoot because the clothing previously of our artist was different to the letter scene and also in the piano scene she forgot to walk off screen where she goes to receive the letter.
We also carried out the first shooting of 10A & 10B. This is the fire scenes where we cut to Sandhya sitting in front of the fire and there are pictures she is looking through which are around the fire place and then we zoom into the fire where she places the letters and pictures in.

Sunday 4th March 2012- Day 11 Of Filming
Today was Sandhyas parts of the split screen of scenes 13B & 13C. This was done well and we did not face many problems.
Friday, 2 March 2012
Friday 2nd March 2012- Day 10 of Filming- Reshoot (1) of 5A, 7A & 8A.
Today we had to reshoot scenes 5A, 7A & 8A because we realised from previous footage some clothing was incorrect and this would not show consistency throughout therefore we had to reshoot and also we forgot one vital camera angle.
Friday, 24 February 2012
Friday 24th February 2012- Day 9 of Filming
Today was the first shooting of scenes 9A, 9B and 9C which were the scenes where our Artist Sandhya is walking down the stairs towards the front door and picks up the letter she receives from Zein. We were fully equipped and bought the envelopes needed. Also the camera angles were shot according to the storyboard.
Today we also RESHOT scenes 11A, 11B and 11C at Wembley Park due to the lighting and due to the weather on 10/02/12 the footage didn’t look like what we were trying to visualise. We also made mistakes in the camera angles and the station was closed that day and the audience watching this could see this therefore we felt we needed to make it more natural therefore decided to reshoot these scenes.
Saturday, 18 February 2012
Production Log
Today we all met up as a group and looked over the footage we previously shot and came to some agreements of what and why we need to reshoot so far.
Wednesday, 15 February 2012
Wednesday 15th February 2012- Day 8 of Filming
Today was the first shooting of 5A, 6A, 6B, 13A, 13B and 13C. These scenes were shot well at our male actor; Zein.

Saturday 11th Feburary 2012- Day 7 of Filming
Today was a very successful day. We shot scenes 7B and 7C. This was a flashback scene therefore we wanted to make this memorable to the audience. Today we met a group of 3 who were dancers at Wembley Fountains. They caught our eye therefore as a group we went to ask if they would mind being in our video and they were very polite people and agreed to be in the video. This was very useful and last minute however it was helpful. We also had a camera with us which helped us with our idea of stop motion.
Friday, 10 February 2012
Friday 10th February 2012- Day 6 of Filming
Today we shot a variety of scenes. Our initial plan was to shoot scenes 11A, 11B and 11C at Premiere Inn which is a hotel near our school. However we were granted no permission therefore we decided to shoot at Wembley Park Station however we faced some problems due to the snow and the footage we looked at later on this day, didn’t occur as planned therefore decided we will have to reshoot later on. However also on this day we shot scenes 5A, 7A & 8A however earlier on this day we had to print pictures which were required for this scene. The problems we faced was the lighting in the room and we had problems with spacing within the room. We forgot to stick to the camera angles as planned on the storyboard.
